Geology Major aka fieldtrip central

So my Petrology class went on a field trip, (Petrology not meaning the great search for oil, but the study of Metamorphic, Igneous rocks). We headed over to Charlottesville Virginia, the great town of Thomas Jefferson. From there we drove to various places. On the first day we went to a cave that was not well known and not crowded. This was an awesome cave, there were places where we had to army crawl to get through tight places and shuffle sideways the get through narrow passageways. It was one of the cooler things I have done. The second day we went on the blue ridge highway, which goes up into the appalacians and weaves around in there. We looked at some outcrops and some cool scenery. So here are a few pictures of my journey, I have many more cool pics that I may post later but for now, I will keep you waiting on the edge of you seat.

On a tip from Bryce DeYoung me and brooke made our way down to newport beach. We drove down the PCH and made a right onto Poppy street. There was a hidden beach with tide pools. It was really cool and foggy. We explored the coast and found lots a crabs, shells, birds, and one seal. Check out the pics.

Joshua Trees

We have all wondered why U2 named their monster album, "the Joshua tree." I have the answer, but only because i was just at Joshua Tree national park. Yes that is correct i can scratch Joshua tree off my giant list of national parks. Brooke on the other hand has only scratched off 2 parks (saguaro cactus national park would be the other). So to answer the question. Obviously they named the album "the joshua tree" because every song is actually about joshua trees. Most people will tell you that they wrote the cd as their pilgrimage across the states. These people would be liars or as i like to call them, Sportels. I mean honestly think of all the songs.... "with or without you" has to be about Bonos love for joshua trees, and his realization that he can no long with a joshua tree, but also without one. I feel his pain. "the streets have no names," because if there were streets on joshua trees (the absence of roads has not yet been proven by science) they would obviously not have names. "beautiful day," because every day is a beautiful day in joshua tree national park. Now these liars(Sportels) would tell you that beautiful day isn't even on the album "the joshua tree," and they would be wrong.

To sum up the adventure to Joshua tree i would say that i'm glad i finally found a joshua tree, it was exciting. It did take a while to find a joshua tree because unlike saguaro national park, they aren't giant green things, and they aren't everywhere as far as the eye can see. We had to look for them. Plus since i left my copy of "the joshua tree" at home, i wasn't fully sure what a joshua tree looked like (or what it looks like under Edge's skull cap). So we took pictures of ourselves next to what we thought were joshua trees. We did infact find a good specimen of a joshua tree. We had to stumble into the desert to find one. But we did get a nice family shot of all of use jumping (also known fact of science "wards dont' jump") infront of a joshua tree. So i hope you enjoy the photos, plus for some reason i look gigantic. I know i am actually gigantic, but i look more pilige a village and live under a bridge gigantic. Enjoy.
